My father's unit the "Lucky 7th" fought here and he was wounded in your area by an 88mm shell but survived to fight in the Battle of the Bulge.  He (S/Sgt. Jerome Kounitz of Co. B - 48th Armored Infantry) was briefly caught behind the German lines and helped by a Dutch family...something he never forgot right up until his death in October of 2001.
