Unlike the English liberators of Overloon, there was no memorial to the American dead in Overloon. A committee consisting of, Niek Hendrix, Peter van de Pasch, Hans van Toer, Piet Peters, Harry Beckers, Herman Dinnissen and Henk Alders thought it was time to change this. Saturday, September 27, 2008 under a radiant sun with great interest the unveiling took place. The ceremony ended with a fly-by performed by four F-16s from the 312th squadron of the Royal Dutch Airforce. They flew, very impressive, a missing-man formation. Overloon finally had, what later would prove to be, its first monument to the fallen Americans.
